How to ascend and evolve units

Level a unit to 20 with its own kills, spend duplicate copies on ascension, then evolve only if that line exists and the new star cost still fits.

Ascension and evolution are different buttons. Ascension feeds a duplicate of the same troop and raises that copy. Evolution turns the troop into the next name on a fixed line. Rarity stars, the army star cap, unit level and the skill tree are four more systems. None of them replaces the others.

The order that keeps copies

  1. Field the troop you want to grow and let it get the kills. A September 16 mechanics video says only the unit that lands the kill gains the experience, and that low-level targets give poor experience. Archers are the easy leveling tool because they can take kills without standing in the melee.
  2. Reach level 20 on that unit. Eurogamer's October 1 guide and several creator videos treat 20 as the evolve gate. One video also calls 20 the unit level cap, not just a checkpoint.
  3. Ascend with duplicates, up to a third ascension. Creator guides say to finish that before you evolve, because evolving changes which unit the next copies belong to. One source also says ascending resets the unit's level. Read the confirm panel before you spend a copy. If the reset is real, do not ascend a unit you are halfway through leveling.
  4. Use the Evolve podium. The reported lobby path is: from spawn, take the stairs and turn right for ascension; for evolution, head back toward summoning, turn right, and look under the golden dragon for an Evolve sign. If the lobby has moved, follow the sign, not this sentence.
  5. Read the star cost of the result before you confirm. Evolutions usually cost more stars than the form you had equipped.

There is a 199 Robux pass named Ascend All Troops, described officially as ascending all eligible troops. It spends the duplicates you already own. It does not create them. Skip Summon Spin is 79 Robux and only skips the animation.

Lines that are agreed

Start Middle End
Mercenary Squire Knight
Shieldman Sentinel Imperial Wall
Archer Longbowman Flaming Archers
Scout Rider Cavalryman Lancer
Spearman Pikeman Phalangite, reported in Update 3
Spear Militia Spear Vanguard
Javelineer Elite Javelineer
Halberdier Imperial Halberdier
Mace Morningstar, reported in Update 3

Flaming Archers is also written Flame Archer and Fire Archer. Halberdier is also Halberder. Javelineer is also Javeliner. Phalangite is described as an alternate spear branch with a shield and long reach, not as a second step after a normal Pikeman upgrade in every video. Morningstar is the new Mace evolution in October patch coverage. Both new ends need a star check.

Lines that stop

Spartan, Samurai, Berserker and Immortal are summons with no evolution in the guides written before Update 3. Rapier and Rapier Knight are Update 2 troops with a Parry trait; a full public evolution table does not include them. Nokor, Bataar and Khorchin are battle-pass troops, not steps on these lines.

What to evolve first

If you already play the troop, the useful order from creator guides is Flaming Archers, then the Scout Rider line toward Lancer, then a polearm that answers the shields you actually lose to (Halberdier or Spear Vanguard). Knight is called an underrated all-rounder by one creator and a neutral grind by another. Do not evolve a troop you will not equip under the cap you have this week.

Selling duplicates is the expensive mistake. There is no second currency that replaces those copies for ascension.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What decides which troops I can bring?

Two limits apply together: a small number of equipped entries, described as four in current guides and as three until account level 15 in one early guide, and a combined star cost. Read both numbers in your Units menu. A troop you own still will not equip if it pushes the total over the cap.

Which codes should I try first?

Start with GUILDFIX, MONGOLS, OCTOBER3, SATURDAY, LAESTRYGONIAN, UPDATE3 and SKILLTREE. Those seven are the strings an October 5 list and an October 6 list both treat as working. Older strings are on the codes page because the October 5 list still printed them. If the game rejects one, that account result wins.

How do I evolve a unit?

Level that unit to 20 by getting kills with it, ascend it with duplicate copies, then use the Evolve podium. Only some lines evolve. Spartan, Samurai, Berserker and Immortal have no evolution in the pre-Mongol roster. Update 3 coverage adds Mace to Morningstar and Pikeman to Phalangite.

Does my class change my army?

No. Assassin, Sword & Shield and Hammer change how your commander fights. The four equipped troops stay the same. A written beginner guide and a class video both put a class change at 50 Gems. An Archer player class is announced for the October 17-24 2026 event window and is not described as live before that.

Where do the Mongol troops come from?

The official Mongols event lists a Season 1 battle pass with Nokor (3 stars), Bataar (3 stars) and Khorchin (4 stars). Update coverage says those three are pass rewards, not standard banner pulls. Laestrygonian and Myrmidon are separate reported summons.
