Star limit and four-troop loadouts

Add the star costs of the troops you equip and keep the total under the cap in the Units menu. Ownership alone does not equip a troop.

The star limit is why a 4-star you just summoned can sit in the inventory while Shieldman stays on the field. Two rules apply at once.

  • Entry count. Current guides say four equipped entries. One September beginner guide says three at the start and a fourth at account level 15. Check the slots you actually have.
  • Star total. Each equipped troop has a star cost. The sum has to fit the cap printed in the Units menu. You may own troops you cannot equip yet.

Two creators describe the cap as one extra star every five account levels, reaching 15 stars at level 50, with 14 stars at level 45 as the step that matches that slope. Nobody has published a full official level table. If your menu disagrees, the menu is right.

Costs you can plan with

These are the costs more than one source repeats. Halberdier and Javelineer are left out because lists disagree between 1 and 2 stars. Several evolved names still have no agreed number.

Stars Troops
1 Mercenary, Shieldman, Spearman, Archer
2 Scout Rider, Spear Militia, Pikeman
3 Cavalryman, Crossbowman, Mace, Flaming Archers, Elite Javelineer, Spear Vanguard, Nokor, Bataar
4 Lancer, Spartan, Samurai, Berserker, Immortal, Khorchin, Myrmidon
5 Laestrygonian, reported

Nokor, Bataar and Khorchin take their stars from the official Mongols event text. Myrmidon and Laestrygonian take theirs from October patch coverage. Morningstar is reported at 4 and Phalangite at 3, as evolutions.

A cap of 13, as arithmetic

Flaming Archers 3, Spartan 4 and Lancer 4 add to 11. A 1-star Archer or Shieldman fits and leaves a spare star. Scout Rider at 2 fills 13 exactly. Crossbowman at 3 would make 14 and does not fit. Swap Spartan out if you would rather keep the crossbow. This is an example using the community costs above, not a required team.

Habits that stop the common equip error

  • Add the four costs before you queue. A troop that 'will not equip' is often just over the total.
  • Evolving can raise the cost of a troop that already fit. Read the new number first.
  • An automatic fill is not a plan. Look at which job disappeared.
  • Three expensive troops can be over the cap while four cheap ones are legal.

The Gems calculator only answers how many summons you can afford. It does not build the loadout. For roles, use the tier list as an editorial sorting of jobs, then override it with the stars you can actually pay.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What decides which troops I can bring?

Two limits apply together: a small number of equipped entries, described as four in current guides and as three until account level 15 in one early guide, and a combined star cost. Read both numbers in your Units menu. A troop you own still will not equip if it pushes the total over the cap.

Which codes should I try first?

Start with GUILDFIX, MONGOLS, OCTOBER3, SATURDAY, LAESTRYGONIAN, UPDATE3 and SKILLTREE. Those seven are the strings an October 5 list and an October 6 list both treat as working. Older strings are on the codes page because the October 5 list still printed them. If the game rejects one, that account result wins.

How do I evolve a unit?

Level that unit to 20 by getting kills with it, ascend it with duplicate copies, then use the Evolve podium. Only some lines evolve. Spartan, Samurai, Berserker and Immortal have no evolution in the pre-Mongol roster. Update 3 coverage adds Mace to Morningstar and Pikeman to Phalangite.

Does my class change my army?

No. Assassin, Sword & Shield and Hammer change how your commander fights. The four equipped troops stay the same. A written beginner guide and a class video both put a class change at 50 Gems. An Archer player class is announced for the October 17-24 2026 event window and is not described as live before that.

Where do the Mongol troops come from?

The official Mongols event lists a Season 1 battle pass with Nokor (3 stars), Bataar (3 stars) and Khorchin (4 stars). Update coverage says those three are pass rewards, not standard banner pulls. Laestrygonian and Myrmidon are separate reported summons.
